As a Fellow in the International Guild of Miniature Artisans, I build scale furniture and carved miniatures in 1":1' scale (1/12th scale). I've also taught at the IGMA Miniatures school in Castine, Maine. Below are some examples.
The globe on the left was hand painted and is a repro of a mid-1700's globe. The brass ring allows the globe to spin, and also change the angle of the globe. The African Baule Mask above is complete to every detail, including pierced eyes and mouth. For scale on the mask, the round object upon which it rests is a cap from a 35mm film canister. The African bust is carved of walnut, with brass details. All of my masks are completely authentic down to the last detail.
Below are two views of a frog carved from basswood (the box top upon which he rests is 1" square), and a "Running Farm Mutt" sculpted in poly clay. This was a special order, and he now lives happily on a farm out on the East coast.
Two views, above, of some cats, one of which is very naughty as you can see! To their right are two other busts and the Baule mask. The African bust on the left is from the Ivory Coast, and is representative of actual busts created upon the death of a VIP. On the far right is a repro of an Art Deco piece created in the 40's by a Japanese sculptor. This piece is carved from a fossil walrus tooth that is over 1000 years old. Not visible in this shot are the deep brown colors from the fossilization of the ivory.
Immediately to the right are various carved dolphins and sharks, mounted on genuine driftwood pieces, and averaging about 2 inches tall.
The plaque and gavel were created as a gift to the outgoing president of the Syracuse Area Miniature Enthusiasts. (walnut)
Southwestern items are widely collected by miniaturists. The chest on the left is a typical piece that would have been common in an early adobe home in the southwest.
The axe and hoe are made of steel and wood, and the axe has been rusted a bit for realism. The oven and bread loaf are poly clay.
